MATT ANNETTS AND SHANNAN YATES WIN THE NORTH FACE MASTERS OF SNOWBOARDING, STOP #1 AT SNOWBIRD, UTAH

The extremely strong field of athletes at the first stop of The North Face Masters included Travis Rice, Chris Coulter, Ryland Bell, Ralph Backstrom, Rob Kingwill and Joey Vosburgh

Snowbird, Utah, January 31, 2009—The final and super final rounds of The North Face Masters wrapped up today at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, Utah. The field of nearly 50 competitors who advanced after yesterday’s first round made the early morning hike up to Snowbird’s North Baldy venue for the finals. The field was then cut to six women and 14 men for the ultimate super finals showdown. In the end Snowbird local Shannan Yates, who dominated all week long took the overall women’s title. Matt Annetts of Morrisville, Vermont, eclipsed some of the sport’s best riders winning the men’s title. Yates and Annetts each walked away with a $3,500 chunk of the total $14,000 tour stop prize purse.

With yesterday’s points not carrying over, athletes came into the finals with a clean slate, and it was anyone’s event to win or lose. The better of two runs decided the winners. First out of the gate this morning was Shannan Yates. Choosing a technical line speckled with rock exposure, Yates impressed the judges with several cliff-drops and retained her principal standing, winning the run. Her super finals run was merely for show as she had already cinched the title with points earned. Michelle Locke of Lake Louise, Alberta, held on to the second spot going into the super finals and maintained her position, finishing second overall. Defending TNF Masters Snowbird champion Susan Mol of Crested Butte, Colorado, rounded out the women’s podium.

Build The Canyons Terrain Park
Written by Josh Scheuerman
Monday, 12 January 2009
ImageDid you ever wonder how kids get to be on resorts Terrain Park crew?  It’s a hard gig to snag when everyone wants to ride as much as possible and actually have input on how the terrain park features are going to turn out.  You have to work from the bottom up and put in extra muscle shoveling lips and bomb holes each and everyday.  It may not be a job for everyone, but over at The Canyons terrain park page you can take a trial course and see if you’re up for the job.  Steve Duke, the master shredder behind the The Canyons ever-expanding terrain park is giving you the option to get creative and design their picnic table feature to whatever specs you want.  I’ll let him explain the details.  “I need you to re-design our picnic feature area in the terrain park.  It’s easy, and if we use your park layout, you can even take all the credit.  Got it? Now get to work! Steve.” See if you have the skills at: http://www.ridecanyons.com/design.html
