SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – The Gallivan Center lit up on Saturday, November 3rd when thousands of winter enthusiasts gathered at Ski Utah’s 2nd annual Fat Flake Festival. The event was kicked off with the first ever Fat Flake Festival Monster Rail Jam. A 14-foot high start platform and in-run will led to a "butter wedge" to a down box, provided by Park City Mountain Resort, and a 37-foot “volcano” box (a battleship with a slightly concave plateau), provided by The Canyons. The venue was covered with snow from Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon resorts. Athletes engaged in fierce and highly entertaining competition much to the audience delight. When all was said and done, judges Aaron Bittner, Kimmy Fasani and Pep Fujas crowned MC Waryas as the best female ski athlete and Kyler Cooley best male. Alicia Trujillo won best female snowboard athlete and Zak Hale best male. Each winner was awarded with $800, a bag from Dakine and a year supply of Monster energy drink.

Over his 15-year professional career, he won 4 world championships and 3 U.S. championships; he won the Mount Baker Banked Slalom in 1988, 1991, and 1993.  "Let It Ride" explores the life of Craig Kelly and all those he influenced along the way.

Burton, Skullcandy and Spacecraft would like everyone to come out and see this movie tonight and while it continues playing in Salt Lake.  Giveaways and friends tonight!

Fourteen-year-old skateboarder James Daniels, of Salt... (Danny Chan La/The Salt Lake Tribune)
TAYLORSVILLE - Even on a weekday, the skate park at 4800 S. Redwood Road is packed, reverberating with the sound of polyurethane wheels scraping against concrete.
Adolescent boys with shaggy hair and skinny jeans hanging from their hips show off kickflips, ollies and noseslides, heckling each other when they fall.
You would never guess that at least a handful of them are vigilantes - or maybe just the punk rock version of hall monitors.
They have to be to keep their park open.

Shredding Utah

01/02/2009 03:29 PM
Know Before You Go - This Tuesday
A critical need exists for basic avalanche education for all ski and snowboarders in Utah. Just as students in Hawaii learn about the dangers of rip tides and shore breaks at an early age, snow sports enthusiasts in Utah need to learn about snow safety and avalanches. The rising number [...]

Pair Pass at the Canyons.
Going up to the mountains these days is an expensive proposition.  Throw in lunch and it’s enough to break any shredders bank.  The Canyons feels your pain and is offering a great special this season until February 12th.  Get 2 lift tickets, 2 burgers, and 2 beers or sodas for $109.  That’s $54 each for [...]
