Another resort is gearing down for what has been a spectacular season and The Canyons is going out with a bang! Part of their closing festivals are free concerts and events, part of which are partly over, but three free concerts still remain. On Wednesday, April 3 Slightly Stoopid will be packing the outdoor arena starting at 5 pm. Influenced from all genres and touring the country relentlessly, a great show to see anytime, but for free it’s a must see. Thursday, April 4 is 80’s day all day. Dress up or down depending on your age for the classic, ‘best neon’ on the mountain contest. To fulfill the 80’s theme the Metal Gods will be pumping fists in the air at 3 pm and head banging you back to the classic rock days. Finally, Saturday, April 5 Rusted Root will close out Spring Gruv 08 along with the big terrain park for the season. These sessioned showmen will bring a great performance from over 15 years of touring experience. For more information check out, www.thecanyons.com |

The flat pan desert was laid out 35,000 below, deep red, burnt and cracked open as my plane banked towards the southwest desert that is New Mexico. Home to Nambe dish ware, the Zia sun symbol and one of four resorts that still bans snowboards on the mountain. Taos. The locals who had dreamed of skiing forever without the attitude of the snowboard evaporated in December when the resort stated that they would be allowing the single planks on the mountain starting March 19, 2008. Leaving three weeks to see where traffic is congested and improvements needed to make the transition smooth for the next full season. The pioneer of snowboarding, Sherman Popper showed up for the ribbon cutting, joined by industry veterans, national magazines and reps from across the country. The word has been out for months and both parties have been talking between themselves either venting or waiting for the day to ride.
