SNOWBIRD, UTAH – With a rising skin cancer rate that is among the highest in the nation, Utah’s fight against cancer is more important than ever. This Saturday, August 9, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort will host the 12th annual Survivors at the Summit event to benefit the Cancer Wellness House. The fund- and awareness-raising celebration is a day dedicated to recognizing the courage and determination of those affected by cancer.

The Survivors at the Summit celebration begins with a pancake breakfast on the Snowbird Center Plaza Deck Saturday morning, followed by a Journeys hike or Tram ride to Hidden Peak. The 3.5-mile Journeys hike represents the challenges and personal summits faced in the fight against cancer. Upon reaching 11,000 feet, hikers will be met by a sea of yellow flags bearing their names high atop Hidden Peak during the Celebration of Life ceremony.

The pancake breakfast is $4 per person and there will be raffle tickets for sale for $3 per ticket or five for $10. All proceeds go to the Cancer Wellness House. To access the pancake breakfast and Hidden Peak hike take Little Cottonwood Road to Snowbird Entry 2.

The Cancer Wellness House is a non-profit organization offering free programs, educational resources and wellness groups to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer. For more information about Survivors at the Summit contact the Cancer Wellness House at (801) 236-2294 or visit www.cancer-wellness.org.

Free Concerts Close Out The Canyons PDF Print E-mail
Written by Josh Scheuerman
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

Another resort is gearing down for what has been a spectacular season and The Canyons is going out with a bang! Part of their closing festivals are free concerts and events, part of which are partly over, but three free concerts still remain.
On Wednesday, April 3 Slightly Stoopid will be packing the outdoor arena starting at 5 pm.  Influenced from all genres and touring the country relentlessly, a great show to see anytime, but for free it’s a must see.
Thursday, April 4 is 80’s day all day.  Dress up or down depending on your age for the classic, ‘best neon’ on the mountain contest.  To fulfill the 80’s theme the Metal Gods will be pumping fists in the air at 3 pm and head banging you back to the classic rock days.
Finally, Saturday, April 5 Rusted Root will close out Spring Gruv 08 along with the big terrain park for the season.  These sessioned showmen will bring a great performance from over 15 years of touring experience.
