Jeremy Jones - p: Adam Moran
Jeremy Jones - p: Adam Moran

NAME: Jeremy Jones
HOME TOWN: Sandy, Utah
YEARS RIDING: 19
FAVORITE SHRED SPOT:
Brighton
SPONSORS:
Burton, DVS, Matix, Nixon, anon, Milosport

Tell us about the first time you slid sideways on snow?
In a gully in my friend’s backyard on a skate deck that had bicycle tubing for straps, it was pretty all time.

Craziest thing you’ve ever seen go down while snowboarding?
Because of snowboarding and being in it for so long I have seen the most amazing things – from travels to weather to people to launches to the most epic snowboarding ever done by some of the very best riders out there. The craziest thing is too hard to call out, it’s just crazy that I have witnessed what I have. That in a package is the most craziest thing ever imaginable!

What’s the best part about living in Utah?
Family, friends, weather, skating, snowboarding, I don’t really not like anything about it.

What’s the best part about riding Brighton?
Friends and the knowledge of the mountain.

Describe a typical “day in the life” of Jeremy Jones?
Day in the life is hanging with the family and skating, working on the motorcycle, running around town, taxes, e-mails, phone calls, etc. A day snowboarding and filming is wake up early, eat some breakfast, get out on the sleds or in the rental truck if in a city and start shoveling, getting kicked out, going to another spot or zone, hoping the jump works and the weather holds, pray you stick your tricks cause the sun is going down fast, pack it up, head back, stuff some dinner into my system, then go to bed!

Favorite place to grab a bite to eat before and after shredding?
Anything that is quick so I can get to the pow or get to bed a soon as possible.

Where are your favorite non-resort shred spots?
I like Minnesota for rails. Its super good, fairly low bust-factor, lots of spots, good hotel rates, we have our scene dialed there, so it’s real productive.

Tell us about your setup? Do you switch it up between powder days and street rail sessions?
Yeah, I have a street board that is a softer 151, and my mountain board is a 156 and a 159 depending on how deep and how steep.

Word on the street is that you’ve helped cook up some crazy new tech for your latest pro model. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Well I switched it up a bit for sure. I have a new binding package that is followed by the new track system on the board, then a mid-wide width 159 so that a bit bigger foot can fit on it and it floats way better in the pow. But the binding and the track system, which is called EST, is the best package out there, hands down!

Tell us about the crew you usually film and ride with?
I film with MDP, that is my focus every year. They helped make me, I trust them, and I am very loyal to that company. Riders change from year to year, but Seth Huot has been there for a few years and he is very very good to have on the crew. Darrell Mathes is the new cat that has been stepping up and the three of us have been the crew this year and we work well together.

Is it ever tough to leave for film and photoshoots when everything you could ever ask for is right in your back yard?
Yeah, it sucks actually. I haven’t even shot powder one single time in Utah this year, and only a jib or two, so this year I was home right next to never!

Who’s the best local rider yet-to-be discovered?
I don’t really know, I am not really in that scene. I have my deal and it is pretty focused, so I don’t see a ton of kids ripping the mountain and I don’t know the party scene, so I never meet those kids. I am out of the loop on that tip, but I hear about a kid now and then, but there has definitely been a dry spell with the up-and-comers, as of late.

What has been the highlight of your season so far?
My highlights are getting home for the two days before the next trip and playing with my family.  As far as snowboarding, Darrell and Seth have been filming bangers all year, but I can’t give those away.

If you never started snowboarding, what do you think you’d be up to right now?
Skating and working landscaping.

What’s the skate scene like in Salt Lake?
Getting good, dudes are comin up and getting noticed and it’s nice to have the parks. Now that I am a bit older and my time is a bit more limited, I can get to the park everyday and skate hard for two hours, and get in way more skating than driving around all day trying to hit up street spots. I love the street scene, but you got to adapt to life I guess. At least I know I’ll never stop skating!

Any advice for shredders looking to check out Utah?
Yeah come on out and get after it! Just do what you love for as long as you can.
