Three Magazine is based in Salty Lake City, UT and features national bands, professional athletes and local night life and musicians. Where did you just move? Ready to start another tour in the next week? I moved across town, back to the neighbourhood that everyone lives in. I don't know if I'm ready to start tour. It'll kick in when I'm in the van. Do you have any pets that you have to give over to care givers while you are away? I have a cat named Little Lu. I live with my girlfriend, so I don't really need to worry when I'm gone. I really have no drummer questions, but was wondering who some of your favorite bands where growing up? Turned you onto music? My father was a musician, so I grew up with listening to Led Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, The Mother's of Invention, Hendrix, Cream, etc. I still pretty much listen to only music recorded before 1982. How does it feel to be numbered among the extensive Sub Pop catalog now with the release of Apologies and the EP? You are now numbered among some of the greats at least on paper. I grew up in the “Pacific Northwest” (Victoria, BC), so being on Sub Pop is pretty neat. They are probably the first label that I remember taking an interest in when I started to notice and be interested in underground music. I’m writing you from Utah and except for an epic history involving religion and succession and a really large body of salt water, have you had any experience with the Beehive State? I unfortunately have only experienced Utah driving at night, although we stayed once in a town that was on the border of Utah and Nevada at a casino. It was one of the weirdest towns I have ever been too. Another random question. We also feature a few different athlete (sport) interviews a month ranging from skateboard, BMX, wakeboard and mountain bike did you have any sports history or do you still enjoy any? Some of the same kids that will probably be attending the show at the end of August probably skated that day and have a following. I enjoy playing soccer and hockey, but I'm not really good at either. My athleticism is usually spent trying to avoid spilling any beer while I play. The video on your myspace of ‘I’ll believe in anything’ you are wearing a Black Flag shirt. Have you seen the documentary coming out, American Hardcore? Well documented if you have not seen it. I love that shirt, but I lost it on some tour. I have heard about the documentary, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Black Flag are one of the best bands ever though. Smuggling any contraband back and forth over the boarder? You can't fuck with the border. It's just not worth it. I see you will be making a stop at ACL this year. Have you had the opportunity to play such a large festival before? Any stories from such festival or if not, who are you excited to see? We played Coachella Festival this year. Festivals are a very different experience than regular shows, you get wisked around on golf carts and you're at the catering table picking out sushi next to one of the folks from Sleater-Kinney. Festivals kinda feel like a big machine, and all the set times are really regulated. For us that's a bad thing, since most of our equipment only works about %50 of the time. At Coachella, a good chunk of our set was eaten up fucking around trying to get all our equipment to work, which sucked when you're standing around in front of a few thousand people.
