Freeriding at Powder Mountain |

It's been an epic month for snowfall in Utah. And yesterday morning was one for the books. The Snow Report was reading 24 inches in 24 hours and we knew we just had to make the trip up to Powder Mountain. About an hour north of Salt Lake, Powder Mountain is a simple place. Older chairlifts lead to easy hikes and snowcats just waiting to drop you at the top of virgin powder fields glistening in the sun. Everyone is friendly and there's enough powder to keep everybody smiling. It's impossible not to have a great time at Pow Mow, but, when it's sunny and deep it's just icing on the cake. Powder Mountain lies about an hour north of Salt Lake City above Eden Utah, which is at the top of Ogden Canyon. From the top of Powder Mountain you can see the Ogden Valley, Wolf Mountain and Snowbasin. We started off the day with a liesurely hike in Powder Country to the top of Bald Mountain. From there we had 2000 feet of untracked powder under us all the way down to the road. After a quick ride back up on the Powder Country Shuttle, we were back at the Sundowner lift. We decided to head over to the Lightning Ridge Powder Cat and catch a ride to the top of Lightning Ridge. We did two of those before we had to race back to the office and get some work done. The moral of the story is, if you want to ride powder, go to Powder Mountain . The name is no joke and the resort is still kind of a locals secret. Go get some faceshots before the secret is out.
