ImageThere are those who can tear up the pipe, and those who kill it on the rails.  But what about guys like me who just live to freeride, hiking over the cliffs and billy goating lines back to the truck.  It's a whole different set of skills that needs to be appreciated. Only recently has freeriding begun to be respected by the masses thanks to a new school of contests like the North Face Masters, the Quiksilver Natural Selection, and the North American Freeride Tour.

Enter the Xterra Winter Worlds at Snowbasin.  This contest combines a multitude of sports and disciplines into a weekend of races, parties, and fun events.

The main event is a race combining running, snowshoeing, mountain biking and ski mountaineering into one mamoth race that tests racers endurance capabilities as well as on snow sensibilities.  $10,000 is up for grabs in this race and it's expected to draw endurance junkies from around the world.

Ok, that's nice, but where does snowboarding come into the equation?

XTERRA Snowboard Scramble Dash-for-Cash - $500 to the men’s and women’s winner.  Riders take the lift to the top of Snowbasin for a LeMans style start and following an initial short climb up the mountain with their board, racers strap-in and race to a spot ¼ way down the slopes for the next short ridge climb.  Riders will have three checkpoints where they’ll have to do a short climb then strap-in & race back down. First one to the bottom wins.

So, if you're feeling it and really want to win that $500, here's your chance.  Show that you're bigger, faster, and stronger than your postholing breathren and get wicked up at Snowbasin.

The Place: Snowbasin Resort
The Dates:  March 7-8-9
The Website:  xterrawinter.com
The Phone#: toll-free 877-751-8880
The Parties: Each night in Ogden
