The Tunnel
A look first look at the inside of the tunnel.
That's right.  Take the tunnel.  New for this season, Snowbird is opening the first ski tunnel in North America.  Connecting Mineral Basin, on the backside of Snowbird, to the all new Peruvian Express Quad Chair, the Tunnel will a moving sidewalk that will transport skiers and boarders through the mountain to Mineral Basin.  Shredding Mineral Basin just got that much easier.  For those of you too cheap to buy a tram pass, you can get to Mineral Basin with only a chair lift ticket and without having to ride two different chairs to get there.

Snowbird’s new nearly 600-foot tunnel will house a conveyor lift that will transport skiers and riders from Peruvian Gulch into Mineral Basin. Located at the top of the new Peruvian Express high-speed quad, the 12-foot high, 10-foot wide tunnel provides a four-minute ride to intermediate terrain in Mineral Basin. The new tunnel and lift will make intermediate terrain more accessible to skiers and riders by eliminating many switchbacks and the steepest pitch of Chip’s Run. It also provides an efficient way to reach Hidden Peak without the use of the Tram.

The new Peruvian Express Quad Chair will access 2600 vertical feet of some of the best terrain intermediate at Snowbird, that previously was only available from the Tram.  Because of its location below the ridge-line, it won't be as effected by the high winds that can occassionally close the Tram.  Meaning more time to rip the powder in Peruvian Gulch that falls when the storms blow through.  And at a rate of 1800 people per hour, you'll get more runs in.

This season, be sure to add the new Peruvian Express and North America's first ski tunnel to your tick list.  We'll see you on the other side.
