The invention of the zipper revolutionized the clothing industry and brought about changes that have never been improved upon since. Such is the case with the Speed lacing system or Speed Zone that is the primary feature of the Ion. Just like pulling on your pants in the morning, pulling two zone cords tightens up the entire boot from heel to toe.
There are upper and lower zones that are independently adjusted to give the support and slack needed in different terrain. Combined with the Everlast interior and slick wrap shell, the Ion is the Rolls Royce of snowboard boots. The boots takes a few full days to break in and mold to your foot, but the comfort and response afterwards is worth the wait. Speed Zone is a new technology and the prices are raised for that reason, but unlike the boa system, having two independent lacing systems to work separately, fits like a glove is the best way to describe the feel of the Burton Ion’s.
