ImageHow is the movie going to be distributed this year?
It’s going to be distributed through Future Snowboard Magazine and it comes out November 7 on newsstands.  It’s the December issue of Future, so there are 200,000 full lengths coming out.  The teaser is in the Future Snowboard that is out right now and with X-Box Magazine and Play Station magazine.  So between the teasers and full length version there is over a million copies.

How long did the video take to film?
All the riding, and the chase scenes, the bond scenes with Shaun White were filmed between February and the end of April.  Then the green screen shoot and interior cabin scene in early June out in Hollywood and Pasadena, CA, which was really cool.  We shot the interior cabin scene with Shaun White and a Russian actress who performed as a Russian Spy.  Then a green screen for the introduction of the movie and follows the opening scene of the movie follows the whole Bond theme.  All the stuff was done after the mountain was closed.  In December I took out a loan on my house, got the movie rolling, got the distribution, got the riders, Shaun was on board and was the only movie he filmed for this season.  You’ll see him in other stuff two seasons ago, but as far as movies he filmed for this season, this was the only one.  I got the resort to back it and they were %100 behind it and so I didn’t have to worry about the money coming out of my pocket anymore.  It was definitely something I wanted to do for the last three years.  I just had this idea of filming a James Bond parody and doing the skit and introduction, which is reminiscent of a James Bond movie.  The movie then shows traditional park segments, which is the body of the movie.  It has our other riders in it like, Aaron Biittner, Scotty Arnold, Mark Frank Montoya, Danny Davis, Erin Comstock, Drew Fuller, and Stevie Bell.  There is just a really good line up.  It showcases the mountain well and the riders have different parts.  The credit section is really cool where we use the same kind of silhouetted graphics, with behind the scenes stuff and motion graphics that we use in the introduction of the movie.

The film is basically a movie of the Park City All Stars that you put together.
That was one of my first projects when I first came in and put together the concept of the team and this movie showcases the All Stars as well as other riders that are not on the team like Danny Davis, Kevin Pierce, they are in the movie but not all stars and also guys we sponsor like Bodie Merrill for example.  There are also local guys that kill it and have good parts.  Heiki Sorsa also has a part in there.  Nate Sheehan, Wiete Caldwell.  It’s just a fun park riding that showcases other parts of the mountain.  You’ll see Park City, the old mine feature, the quarter park section that was filmed around an old mine section on the mountain that has a conveyer belt surrounding it.  I hope people are stoked and come out to see it.  Shaun White will be there, the whole Park City All Stars.  It was a great movie to make; it was a lot of fun making it.  A lot of people were involved.  Whitey Mcconnihe directed the opening scene of the movie.  The principal filmographers were Whitey, Greg Shmitt, myself, Justin H’Laeaux and Paul Saunders.  I produced and directed the park scenes in the movie, that was my gig and then I had a friend out of New York, Vincent O’Brian that did the motion graphics for the movie.  Gabe H’Leurax edited the park scenes.  It was great to bring all these guys together and bring it to fruition.

Could you have built this much success out of Park City with no park?  Especially in Utah with only a few parks growing up and riding here 12 years ago there were almost none.
Having a quality park it the core of everything we do and then having the All Star team helps promote the park and brings credibility to this established park.  Those guys feel strongly about representing the park, there fore they associate their names with it.  They are not going to represent something that they are not behind and do not feel credible with endorsing.

There are not many resorts with pro teams?
That is something I’m glad I can do is promote the team with the park.  And all those guys ride at the resort.  It’s an important piece of the puzzle for us.  Having the pro’s riding here and then kids see them up on the mountain and it works together well and with the movie coming out.  Just got voted again by Transworld Snowboarding for #1 Park again for the third time and that has never been done before.  Coinciding with the movie and then coinciding with the team and having guys like Jeremy Jones and Shaun White.  He has been very supportive of park City and it’s been huge.

What can we expect out of Park City Mountain Resort this season?
We have the World Superpipe, The ROXY Chicken Jam, and a few amateur events.  We will have a few special photo and video shoots with the team which we do every year.  We are switching things around in the park, adding 25 new rails and boxes, taking some old stuff out.  Changing up the lines stay on top of it and make it even better this year.

Do you think from the success if Park City, do you think other resorts will improve their formula?

It’s really up to them to try and bring in the right people with experience and right background they can probably do it as well.  But we also want to stay one step ahead of the game.

You brought in a helicopter?
We used a regular helicopter and a remote control helicopter.  The regular helicopter has the over views and part of the chase scenes.  Whitey had the idea of bringing in the remote control helicopter and he had a connection to that.  The shots from farther above are the regular helicopter and then the really close tight shots, that showcase the park really well and smooth is the remote control helicopter.  If you look close you can see it in the teaser and people think it’s a real helicopter.  A fun skit to start it off with and take a different approach to the movie and something different is what is going to make it different and unique.

Thanks?
All those at Park City Mountain Resort, John Cummings Peter Curtis, Rick Devoe.  Of course all the riders for getting behind it.  Quicksilver, Burton, DC, ROXY.  All of the Park Crew without a doubt those guys do an amazing job.  The whole resort, every department help make it happen.

Spring Backcountry Mission
So, this season, I’ve been on a mission to tackle some backcountry routes that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. So far I’ve ticket “The Seagull” on Argenta and that’s it. Between having access to every resort in Utah and a busy schedule dominated by a two year old, I’ve had [...]

Burton Chill Program Video
If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I spent 6 weeks this winter with the Burton Chill Program and my 13 year old neighbor Jake. Burton’s Chill Program takes at-risk and inner city youth to the mountains and provides them with all the gear, transportation, and instruction that they need to snowboard.  [...]
